About Us

We are Macedon Ranges Further Education Centre Inc. (MRFEC)  – pronounced as "Mr Fec!"

MRFEC offers adult education training and lifestyle courses within the Macedon Ranges region.
Most classes are at our Neighbourhood House in Gisborne, but at times are presented in Sunbury and other neighbouring Neighbourhood Centres. MRFEC is a not-for-profit organisation with a focus on offering training and courses to further adult learners’ education and engage our local community in a variety of recreational courses and workshops. MRFEC also presents social engagement activities that seek to bring members of our community together, to learn, talk and share ideas and skills.

Learn Local

MRFEC is a Learn Local centre where you can access training close to where you live. Learn Local courses can help you get the skills you need for study, work and life. MRFEC is one of around 240 Learn Local providers across Victoria.
Experienced tutors present our training, and we specialise in small classes averaging about 8 to 10. We offer each student the attention and guidance they require to be successful while undertaking their training with us.
Learn Local offers thousands of short courses that can help you return to study, improve your digital, reading, writing and maths skills, get a job, change careers, or learn something new.

Our History:

Macedon Ranges Further Education Centre Inc. is an Adult Community Education Provider.  It was established in 1980 by a group of keen education enthusiasts, that wanted to provide some learning opportunities to the local community. The Centre was originally known as Gisborne Adult Learning Centre and grew from the original 4 programs, to a Neighbourhood House and a Registered Training Organisation offering more than 50 programs per school term in a diverse range. It has undergone a further change with the lapsing of the RTO, and the increasing uptake of ACFE courses. A name change occurred in recent years to reflect the growth of the Centre, delivering programs across the Macedon Ranges.

The Centre offers pre- accredited training programs that are responsive to the local community to assist with employment or pathways into other educational programs, as well as lifelong learning programs that are responsive to community needs.
We also have a long history of assisting people returning to the workforce, both the unemployed and parents returning to the workforce after a break.  The programs that the Centre offers also assist in improving their employability skills so that the participant may be able to increase their skill levels.

The Macedon Ranges is renowned for its arts and crafts, and we use this opportunity to provide programs by employing local artists and talented craft personnel to conduct courses for us.
